Plot Summary

The film begins with Kalyan Krishna (Shaam) arriving in Virginia to meet his brother Kalyan (Ravi Teja), who has married Naina (Ileana D'Cruz) and settled there. Kalyan tells him about his son Robin Hood (also Ravi Teja), who is completely different from his father in terms of character. Robin is obsessed with comfort and convenience in every aspect of life, and does not care about anyone else's feelings or problems. He is also a doctor who treats himself whenever he gets injured or sick.

Robin flies to India to attend his grandfather's funeral, where he meets Chaitra (Rakul Preet Singh), a bubbly and beautiful girl who claims to be his cousin. She tries to impress him with her stories and poems, but he ignores her and leaves for Hyderabad. There, he meets Pandit Ravi Teja (Brahmanandam), a fake astrologer who tells him that he will find true love in Vilaspur village. Robin decides to go there, hoping to find some comfort and peace.

Meanwhile, in Vilaspur, Solomon Singh Thakur (Ravi Kishan) is a cruel and powerful landlord who exploits the villagers and kills anyone who opposes him. He has a rivalry with Kalyan, who had once saved the village from his tyranny and earned the respect and gratitude of the people. Solomon wants to take revenge on Kalyan and his family, and also plans to build a huge factory on the village land. He learns that Robin is Kalyan's son and sends his men to kill him.

Robin reaches Vilaspur and finds out that Chaitra is actually the daughter of Solomon's brother, who had betrayed him and fled with his wife and child. Chaitra had grown up in an orphanage and had come to Vilaspur to find her roots. She also reveals that she loves Robin and had lied to him about being his cousin. Robin is shocked by this revelation, but soon reciprocates her feelings. They decide to elope, but are chased by Solomon's men.

Robin fights them off with his skills and intelligence, but gets injured in the process. He is taken to a hospital, where he meets his father Kalyan, who had come to India after learning about his son's situation. Kalyan tells him about his past and how he had developed a passion for adventure and thrill, which he called "kick". He also tells him how he had met Naina and fallen in love with her, despite their differences. He advises Robin to follow his heart and not his comfort.

Robin realizes that he has inherited his father's kick and decides to stay in Vilaspur and fight against Solomon. He rallies the villagers and trains them to defend themselves. He also exposes Solomon's illegal activities and corruption to the media and the police. He challenges Solomon to a final showdown, where he defeats him and frees the village from his oppression.

The film ends with Robin marrying Chaitra and living happily in Vilaspur, while Kalyan returns to Virginia with Naina.

Characters and Performances

Ravi Teja as Robin Hood and Kalyan

Ravi Teja plays a dual role as Robin Hood, a comfort-seeking NRI doctor, and his father Kalyan, a kick-seeking adventurer. He delivers a stellar performance in both the roles, showcasing his versatility and charisma. He brings out the contrast between the two characters with ease, switching from comedy to action to romance with flair. He also displays his trademark energy and dialogue delivery, making the audience laugh and cheer for him.

Rakul Preet Singh as Chaitra

Rakul Preet Singh plays Chaitra, an aspiring writer who falls in love with Robin and has a secret connection to Vilaspur village. She looks gorgeous and glamorous in the film, especially in the songs. She also shares a good chemistry with Ravi Teja, matching his comic timing and expressions. She does justice to her role as a bubbly and brave girl who stands by her love.

Ravi Kishan as Solomon Singh Thakur

Ravi Kishan plays Solomon Singh Thakur, the ruthless landlord of Vilaspur who wants to kill Robin and Chaitra. He portrays a menacing villain who is cruel, cunning, and powerful. He also adds some humor to his character with his funny accent and mannerisms. He makes a worthy antagonist for Ravi Teja's heroism.

Supporting Cast

The film also features some notable actors who played supporting roles in the movie, such as Brahmanandam, Rajpal Yadav, Nora Fatehi, etc. Brahmanandam plays Pandit Ravi Teja, a fake astrologer who helps Robin in Vilaspur. He provides some hilarious moments with his antics and dialogues. Rajpal Yadav plays Solomon's sidekick, who is a comic relief with his antics and expressions. Nora Fatehi plays a special appearance in the song "Sandal Meraa Mann", where she sizzles with her dance moves and glamour. Other actors like Shaam, Ileana D'Cruz, Sanjay Mishra, Kabir Duhan Singh, etc. also play their parts well.

Direction and Screenplay

Surender Reddy directs the film from a story written by Vakkantham Vamsi, who had also written the story for Kick (2009). He tries to recreate the magic of the prequel, but fails to do so. The film suffers from a weak plot, poor editing, and a dragged second half. The film has some good moments of comedy, action, and romance, but they are overshadowed by the flaws in the screenplay. The film also lacks logic and coherence, as many scenes and characters are introduced and dropped without any explanation. The film tries to balance between entertainment and social message, but ends up being neither.

Music and Cinematography

S. Thaman composes the music for the film, which consists of six songs and a background score. The songs are catchy and peppy, but not very memorable. The song "Sandal Meraa Mann" is the highlight of the album, featuring Nora Fatehi's stunning dance performance. The song "Temple Song" is also a good number, featuring Ravi Teja and Rakul Preet Singh's chemistry. The background score is decent, but not very impressive.

Manoj Paramahamsa handles the cinematography for the film, which is one of the positive aspects of the film. He captures the scenic beauty of Vilaspur village and the action sequences with his camera work. He also uses some innovative angles and shots to enhance the visual appeal of the film.

Reception and Criticism

The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, who praised Ravi Teja's performance and comedy but criticized the lengthy runtime, weak plot, and excessive violence. The film has a rating of 5.3/10 on IMDb , 2/5 on Times of India , and 2.5/5 on Hindustan Times . Some of the common complaints about the film were that it was too long, boring, illogical, and violent. Some critics also felt that the film was a disappointment compared to Kick (2009), which was a blockbuster hit.

Comparison with Kick (2009)

Kick 2 is a sequel to Kick (2009), which was also directed by Surender Reddy and starred Ravi Teja in a dual role as Kalyan and Devi Lal Singh, a kick-seeking thief who falls in love with Naina (Ileana D'Cruz). The film was a huge success at the box office, grossing 66 crore (US$8.3 million) on a budget of 20 crore (US$2.5 million). The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences, who praised Ravi Teja's performance, comedy, action, and entertainment value.

Kick 2 tries to follow the same formula as Kick (2009), but fails to match its quality and charm. The film has some similarities with Kick (2009), such as Ravi Teja's dual role, Brahmanandam's comedy track, Ileana D'Cruz's cameo appearance, etc. However, the film also has many differences from Kick (2009), such as the plot, characters, comedy, action, and entertainment value. The film lacks the freshness and fun factor that Kick (2009) had. The film also deviates from the theme of kick-seeking to comfort-seeking, which makes it less appealing.

Conclusion

Kick 2 is a mediocre action comedy film that fails to live up to the expectations of Kick (2009). The film has some good moments of comedy, action, and romance, but they are overshadowed by the flaws in the plot, screenplay, editing, and violence. The film is only worth watching for Ravi Teja's performance and charisma.
